January 24th

Oranges:- Grant (c), Neil, Phil, Andy I, Mike I, Owain, Dave Zanetti
Blues:- Dan (c), Ralph, Lewis, Craig I, Mike Barker, Andy W, Greg, Sean

With Ralph (last weeks winning captain) stuck in traffic, Dan offered to pick teams against Grant, and the picking didn't work very well, with the Blues starting with the better squad. The teams were further unbalanced with Grant's dodgy knee failing him.

With Owain, Ralph and Neil late to the party the teams never looked balanced, and the blues strolled to an easy victory.

Craig Inker managed to bag a hat-trick with a couple of long range rockets probably the highlight of the evening. Lewis stole a goal from Dan (on a rare forage from his defensive duties). Sean had a surprisingly good game, although it may have been a case of mistaken identity with him wearing the same bobble hat as Ralph.

Not much to report from the Oranges - who were dominated.

Andy and Mike Inker have both still failed to win a game this year!

No goals were scored directly from corners this week!

January 10th

Oranges:- Neil (c), Ralph, Phil, Dan, Andy Watts, Jick
Blues:- Andy I (c),Mike I, Craig I, Stu, Dave Zanetti, Greg, Mike Barker,

Still waiting for a match report from mr A Inker....

but in case he fails - Neil picked his mates (and Dan), Andy picked his siblings.

Net result.. the Inkers got a hell of a beating. Best moment of the game came at the start with Andy Inker marauding forward only to send his shot in completely the wrong direction, straight over the fence!

January 3rd

Oranges:- Dan (c), Owain, Dave Redshaw, Phil, Mike Barker, Jick
Blues:- Andy I (c), Ralph, Andy W, Mike I, Craig I, Neil

So 2017 got off to a cracking start. Andy I picking up the captaincy in Grant's absence (it was meant to be top scorer v best player 2016) and showing much family loyalty (nepotism) in picking both his brothers.

Dan took a punt on Redshaw having made a full recovery from long term injury but was soon to be disappointed.

The Blues stormed into a decent lead, with some spectacular goals, none more so than a strike from Neil, who air shot with his right foot, then followed up with a volley with his left foot that flew into the net from the underside of the bar.

Ralph again pulled up for "going to ground" denying his team a goal, which was to prove costly! When will that young man learn!

Gradually the Oranges managed to get a grip on the game, with Jick playing himself back into form. goals rained in from the new boots of Mike Barker, Phil dominating the middle of the park. Owain showing he can defend as well as goal hang.

Dan smashed home a penalty at the 3rd attempt, but was then thwarted by some fine goal keeping from Ralph and Neil. Redshaw also wasting "goalden" chances putting one high and wide into the trees. All back to normal then. Neil made a couple of goal line clearances with the keeper well beaten.

The game ended with a shock victory for the Oranges, but a back count on goals suggested this wasn't the case. Clearly someone was either lying about how many goals they scored (six Neil, reall?), or forgot they scored some, or the in-game referees got the score wrong.

As a result the match was declared a draw.
